TRANSMUTE | Atelier Edition

Transmute, like its companion piece Pure, is a painting of the human heart — its central geometry the same structure that, in Pure, represents the heart transformed. But where Pure holds that heart at rest in its completed, refined form, Transmute shows it still in the fire — being cooked, forged, and evolved toward that same perfection, not yet arrived. Along the left side of the composition, smoke-like forms drift and dissolve into cloud — a visual trace of the heart actively changing state, still becoming what it will be.

Transmute and Pure form the second pair to emerge from the series’ founding intersection of Sol and Axis. Together they hold two moments of the same inner process: the heart mid-transformation, and the heart transformed. Like every piece in Intersection & Union, they carry a sense of unity radiating from the center of the intersections that structure the whole series — here, made intimate, and made personal, through the symbolic image of the heart structure itself.

The gold leaf is added by hand in the studio for each Atelier Edition print, restoring the same point of living light held in the original painting.

At 16 x 20 inches, Transmute pairs naturally with Pure for those drawn to holding both states — completion and process — in the same space. Pure is also available in larger formats, for collectors wishing to bring more scale to this pairing.
