PRINT DETAILS

Sol holds the feeling of a beginning — not a single point of origin, but a field wide enough to hold everything that comes after it.

This is the horizontal principle: an expanded ground rather than a rising movement. Where its companion piece, Axis, moves upward, Sol spreads outward — a solar geometry of center and periphery that functions less as an image of the sun and more as the creative condition the sun represents. It is potential before form, the field a seed rests in before it becomes a shape.

Sol and Axis are the primal pair of the entire Intersection & Union series. Together they form the first intersection — the cross where the horizontal and vertical principles meet — and from that single union, every later pair in the series (Pure and Transmute, Square in Sky and Octahedra, and finally New Dawn) took shape. Nothing in the series exists without this piece.

The gold leaf marks the center and periphery of this field — not as decoration, but as a point of living light. In the Atelier Edition, each print returns to the studio to receive this element by hand, restoring the luminosity held in the original painting.

At 16 x 16 inches, Sol is compact and grounded, easily placed alongside its counterpart, Axis, or on its own as a quiet anchor point in a room.

Sol was one of the very first prints released from this series, and remains its point of origin — a field, still open, still generative.
