AXIS | Atelier Edition

Where Sol spreads outward, Axis rises. This is the vertical principle — an upwards, verticalizing current that runs through the center of the composition and out to its edges, carried by the geometry throughout the periphery of the piece.

At the heart of Axis is a form based on a pine tree — not its literal likeness, but the way the artist feels a pine tree’s essence: fiery, upward-moving, aspirational, flame-like. Around this central form, the geometry builds into a twelve-sided dodecagon,  associated in sacred geometry with the totality of creation itself. Here, the twelve-sided shape marks a state that has come fully into completion — the vertical current, having risen, arriving somewhere whole.

Axis is the second half of the primal pair at the root of the Intersection & Union series. Paired with Sol, it forms the first intersection in the series — the meeting point of the horizontal and vertical principles from which every subsequent pair of paintings emerged.

The gold leaf is added by hand in the studio for each Atelier Edition print, restoring the same point of living light found in the original painting.

At 16 x 16 inches, Axis is sized to stand beside Sol as a matched pair, or to hold its own as a single point of rising, grounded presence.
