TWILIGHT

A meditation on stillness at the edge of day and night.

This artwork captures the quiet threshold between light and darkness — a moment when color softens, forms dissolve, and the landscape becomes spacious and inward. Twilight is not only a time of day; it is a state of awareness — receptive, reflective, and gently luminous.

“Twilight” is a painting in the  Faces of the Mountain collection, inspired by the view of Mount Shasta from the road near Castle Lake. I’ve camped in this area many times, waking or falling asleep to this view. And it’s often at twilight—this hushed in-between time—that the landscape reveals its most refined presence.

In the painting, Mt. Shasta emerges in soft focus through atmospheric perspective, anchored by deep blue-greens of the valley beneath. A few pine trees stand in quiet witness in the foreground. The sky above moves from pale golden light to a deep midnight blue, scattered with stars. It is not clear if it is dawn or dusk—only that it is a threshold.

A breath held.

A moment of balance and becoming.
